Spirited Away

The Walking Castle

Based on the book of the same name by Diana Wynne Jones, The Walking Castle tells the story of a young girl named Sophie who grows old by magic and falls in love with a handsome sorceress. The 2004 film is considered one of Miyazaki's most anti-war films.

 


 

Nausicaa of The Valley of The Wind

1984's Nausicaa of The Valley of The Wind is considered Miyazaki's first anti-war film. The story begins a thousand years after a global war that almost destroyed the entire world. In a world polluted by toxic air and toxic seas, a heroine named Nausicaä stands up to lead her people to regain their connection with Earth.

Although the movie was released before Studio Ghibli was established, it takes its place among the Ghibli movies.

Castle in the Sky

Studio Ghibli's debut, Castle in the Sky (1986), tells the story of a boy and a girl who try to find a magic crystal and a castle in the sky before a group of pirates capture them.

It is seen as Miyazaki's first film to portray the struggle between nature and man-made technology.

 



Porco Rosso

Porco Rosso, which was released in 1992; A Ghibli movie about airplanes, one of Hayao Miyazaki's favorite themes.

Red Wings is set in the beautiful blue Adriatic Sea during the Great Depression after the First World War. Our hero is a pig and his name is Porco Rosso (meaning "Red Pig" in Italian), but he is actually a human. Porco Rosso is a bounty hunter and flies in a seaplane, battling hijackers and an American named Donald Curtis.
