Dreamworks' Spirit, released June 2021, is a 2D hand-drawn sequel to Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, released in 2002. Netflix revived the series in 2017 with the series "Spirit Riding Free", which ran for 11 seasons.
The movie continues the adventures of 12-year-old Lucky Prescott, who befriends a wild horse named Spirit. Spirit will be cg animated like its series. Dreamworks is reportedly pursuing a lower-cost production model, as with 2017's Captain Underpants (which costs under $40 million).
